Horizon Freight System, one of the most experienced intermodal trucking companies in the United States, is looking for a highly motivated, career-minded individual to join our growing operation as an Intermodal Terminal Manager in our Charleston, SC dispatch terminal.

This position is full-time, on-site.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of our Charleston, SC dispatch terminal, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of containers to and from the Port of Charleston, rail facilities, and customer locations.
  • Serve as the primary point of leadership for the terminal by resolving escalated customer and operational issues, making sound business decisions in a fast-paced environment, and maintaining a high standard of professionalism and accountability.
  • Lead, coach, and support dispatchers, office personnel, and owner operators to maximize productivity, maintain high service levels, and foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Coordinate container pickups, deliveries, chassis utilization, and appointment scheduling while proactively addressing operational challenges, equipment availability, and customer needs.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, steamship lines, port authorities, rail providers, and third-party vendors.
  • Monitor key performance metrics including on-time service, container dwell time, driver productivity, safety performance, and overall terminal profitability, implementing improvements where needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, port, and company safety regulations while promoting a strong culture of safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and grow the terminal by cultivating customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and recruiting and retaining high-quality owner operators.

Qualifications & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Experience managing employees, truck drivers, and daily terminal operations required
  • Port and rail operations experience required
  • Business development experience required
  • Proven capability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced setting
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills

Work Schedule & Benefits:

  • Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (on-site in Charleston, SC), with the expectation of managing business needs outside of regular hours as needed

Physical Demands of the Position:

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to stand, walk, and sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and reach with hands and arms to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
